Well thanks to our sponsor Dennis of Pieced Brain for all the planning and organising that she had to do. I was just visiting everyone that was in for today and I must say there are some nice pieces. I hope I can compare.
I wasn't sure what to make as it has been such a crazy summer but grabbed a few books on my way to the trailer and there so happened to be a wool pattern for this little Christmas piece. I just had to make it. I didn't realise how expensive wool was until I visited the Fabric store in Charlottetown. It was $44.00 a meter. A little out of my price range. So there probably won't be a lot of projects with wool unless I can find it some where else. Needless to say anything fun to do isn't cheap.
I decided I would go down to the sewing room yesterday morning to make another one. These will be great for Christmas presents. I like this one.
A fun and easy one to do. I also want to wish my mother a very Happy Birthday. My brother and I are going to take her out to lunch today. We have two very nice little cafe's in our little town now which makes it so nice to go for lunch.
The schedule for this hop is here and I hope everyone gets a chance to visit each and everyone.

Thanks everyone for stopping by and I hope you enjoyed my pieces.

Nice projects!
ReplyDeleteGreat "go with" for candle gifts. I think I will make one for my sister-in-law.
ReplyDeleteGreat candle mats and you are right wool can be very expensive which is why I try to use recycled wool when possible . Thanks for sharing !
ReplyDeleteYour candle mats are gorgeous and will make lovely gifts. You're right, wool is expensive, which stinks because it's so beautiful and nice to work with lol.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marla.....I agree; could way to use a hat. I like them but can't wear them...lol
ReplyDeleteLovely candle mats...I'm sure the recipients will be thrilled with them! I've slowly built up my wool stash over the last couple of years a small piece or two at a time. Fortunately, for wool applique often times all you need are small pieces. I also tend to use wool felt for the background as it's MUCH cheaper. Another great source is to go to thrift stores and search for 100% wool garments, deconstruct them, and throw them in a hot water wash, cold water rinse to shrink and felt them. Perfect for applique!
ReplyDeleteHello Maria, Your candle mats are truly very very pretty. One idea to increase you wool stash is go to a Good Well or Salvation Army Op shop and find 100% wool clothes take it apart and put it the washer and then dryer and it will shrink up and be great to use. Hugs Judy
ReplyDeleteLove your candle mats. beautiful work. will make wonderful gifts.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love your Christmas pieces Marla and as you say they would make great Christmas presents.
ReplyDeletelove the candle mats, especially the snowman one..
ReplyDeleteHi, Marla! These candle mats are adorable! I love wool applique', but I'm with you - it gets a bit expensive! I really like CJ's amd Barbara's idea of salvaging old wool clothing from a thrift store to build a stash...
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I think I replaced Bird in the Hand on today's hop -- you're welcome to hop on by! www.quiltscapesqs.com
I adore the snowman one, Happy Birthday to your mom, have a great lunch.
ReplyDeleteYour tabletoppers are lovely Marla!
ReplyDeleteOh they are so lovely and of course I am falling for the snowmen one! Really sweet!
ReplyDeleteI was surprised too about the wool prices and I am spying for some ideas how to make my own from old woolskirts. There is somewhere a tutorial I pinned on pinterest, lol! Just have to find it....
Lovely, I think these should be the project that you do for our group sessions
ReplyDeleteMarla congratulations! These are so pretty... Thanks for sharing!

Oh... they are beautiful! What a great job... Remember, you can felt old wool sweaters, pants, skirts, and use them on your projects!!! Then, buy only little pieces of wool if you need to add texture to the work.
ReplyDeleteMarla your candle mats are beautiful! Wool felt is expensive, but like Denise mentioned you can use sweater, wool suits and such and wash them to felt them. I usually buy the largest sweaters, wool clothing that I can find, men or women's sizes at yard sales, or thrift shops. If a thrift shop has a sale on a certain colored tag that day, I will buy only what i can find on sale. Even if moths have made holes in a garment, you can cut around the holes. That makes it more affordable to use wool and you are re-purposing and up-cycling too!
ReplyDeleteCute Christmas projects--love them!
ReplyDeleteYour Christmas projects are wonderful!! I love how you finished off the edge of your little mats!! Gorgeous!

How pretty, thanks for sharing your talent with us all!
ReplyDeleteWool is expensive and that must be why so many scavenge the thrift stores for wool articles. Your poinsettia and snowmen mats are very pretty and will make lovely gifts. Thank you for sharing in this hop. Creative Bliss
ReplyDeleteBeautiful projects. I have only done one wool project but I enjoyed it so much. I have a couple of more sitting on the sidelines though. Now I am going to have to go check out everyone else's creations.
ReplyDeleteyes, wool can be very expensive. good to shop around and wait for sales. Love your wool projects. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects. I especially like the snowmen. I have found some old wool clothes to use in some of my projects, much less expensive than on the bolt.

Your mats are great. I love the patterns in the woven wools. They are expensive but I don't notice it as much if I buy little bundles on special at the craft shows.

I love you your Christmas decorations! So sweet. I agree about the cost of wool. I wish it were more affordable. That's why I go thrifting to look for it too!
ReplyDeleteYour mats are beautiful! Like many others, I visit thrift stores and am very lucky to have a nice stash of wool. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThrifting provides a lot of my wools. You may find some places that are less. Here in the US, I can sometimes find 75-80% wool in a blend that works like 100% wool. Less than that doesn't seem as good. That's more affordable. Your mats are great - I especially like the snowmen.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour candle mats are beautiful! It sounds like anyone who wants to buy wool clothing to wear from the thrift shops needs to get there before the quilters!
ReplyDeleteThese are awesome---I just love them :)
ReplyDeleteI love the snowmen!!! :)
