It was funny when I signed up for this hop I asked my mother n law what sort of quilts they made in the 60's and it sounds that the style of today's quilts are the same so that didn't help. So down to my stash of books I went and the very first magazine I picked up had this pillow in it so it was meant to be. so I had to make it.
When my grandchildren come down they will have a nice pillow to lay on and maybe leave my cushions on the couch. I also thought they might need a small quilt to wrap up in.
The material was so nice to machine quilt and I sewed the binding on by machine and it laid down so nice. I picked this quilt up last November during Midnight Madness from Connecting Threads for less than $20.00. A great buy. It measures 54 by 54. I wanted to take these picture's outside but the weather did not cooperate. It has rained all day.
So I know that one of these projects represent the 60's but the quilt is make all with the Batiks fabric. I want to thank Madame Sam and Mary for all their work. I do so love doing these hops with them. Since I didn't have time to have a give away with my last hop I have decided to have one this time. All you have to do is leave a comment and a way of getting a hold of you and I will have a draw at the end of this hop. I had a little material left over from this project so here are two fat quarters of this Batiks material.
Hope everyone is able to join each one and see their great projects. Here is the list for the week. Have fun and cheer everyone on.

ReplyDeleteYou definitely made two items from the sixties! The pillow is amazing and clearly sixties-related. The quilt is too, because as you rightly put it, it was the time of lounging about on pillows! And who has ever heard of lounging about without a quilt present? You nailed it. Beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteGreat pillow! Both projects are perfect for this hop!!
ReplyDeleteGreat job, now you just have to play referee on who gets to use the pillow and quilt! babscorbitt@ gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteGreat job on your projects. They're all very lovely. Love your color choices.
ReplyDeleteThey are both just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI graduated from high school in 1960 and was in college during the early and mid 60's. It has been fun to see all the creative projects. Nancy: rangerer@sbcglobal.net

ReplyDeleteYour peace sign is very classic! and works well with those colors!
ReplyDeleteLovely quilt, and pillow. The quilt turned out beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBatiks were not as popular in the 60's as madras plaids. While I recall a indigo(blue) print and a faux multicolored print on a dress pattern, multicolored batiks were not available until just recently. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batik for more information.
ReplyDeleteI just completed a quilt using batiks which used quite a bit of my collection, so I am building it up again in anticipation of making another batik quilt. I love both of your projects. Thanks for the opportunity to win some groooovy fabric and for sharing your batik projects.
Beautiful work, the quilt especially my favorite

ReplyDeleteThe kids are going to love the new additions when they come over to visit. Good choice, the peace sign. I guess today's quilts looking like the 60's is no coincidence since the clothes resemble that era too. Everything old is new again?

ReplyDeleteI love batiks. I'm a 60's survivor, the hair, the beatles, flower children, daisy bell bottoms. Sonny and Cher. So glad to have outgrown it all. Thanks.

ReplyDeleteThe Peace quilt is absolutely spot on for the 60's. It is adorable. I love your quilt. I didn't know that Connecting Threads ever had a Midnight Madness. I guess I need to pay more attention to my emails. Your quilt is beautiful in the batiks. Thanks for joining in on the fun of the hop to inspire us.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletePeace Out! I love the pillow! Pretty quilt, too and what a great price!
ReplyDeleteI've never used a lot of batiks but had heard from others that because of the manufacturing process, it was hard to quilt. Since you said, "The material was so nice to machine quilt...", I'm looking forward to giving them a chance. "Peace"...was such a great greeting and farewell; reminds me of aloha.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely use of batiks! Great projects! :)
