Peace out.......Let's Twist to the 60's

Flash back to the 60's--- the days of peace, love, and rock'n'roll---while lounging on a floor-size pillow stitched from batiks prints. I am not sure that batiks prints were in the 60's but hey I was only a kid then. It is the first time that I have worked with this type of material and at first I wasn't sure that I liked it but the more I worked with it the better I liked it.

It was funny when I signed up for this hop I asked my mother n law what sort of  quilts they made in the 60's and it sounds that the style of today's quilts are the same so that didn't help. So down to my stash of books I went and the very first magazine I picked up had this pillow in it so it was meant to be. so I had to make it.

When my grandchildren come down they will have a nice pillow to lay on and maybe leave my cushions on the couch. I also thought they might need a small quilt to wrap up in.

The material was so nice to machine quilt and I sewed the binding on by machine and it laid down so nice. I picked this quilt up last November during Midnight Madness from Connecting Threads for less than $20.00. A great buy. It measures 54 by 54.  I wanted to take these picture's outside but the weather did not cooperate. It has rained all day.
re

So I know that one of these projects represent the 60's but the quilt is make all with the Batiks fabric. I want to thank Madame Sam and  Mary for all their work. I do so love doing these hops with them. Since I didn't have time to have a give away with my last hop I have decided to have one this time. All you have to do is leave a comment and a way of getting a hold of you and I will have a draw at the end of this hop. I had a little material left over from this project so here are two fat quarters of this Batiks material.

Hope everyone is able to join each one and see their great projects. Here is the list for the week. Have fun and cheer everyone on.

  31. You definitely made two items from the sixties! The pillow is amazing and clearly sixties-related. The quilt is too, because as you rightly put it, it was the time of lounging about on pillows! And who has ever heard of lounging about without a quilt present? You nailed it. Beautiful work.

  38. Lovely quilt, and pillow. The quilt turned out beautiful.

  39. Batiks were not as popular in the 60's as madras plaids. While I recall a indigo(blue) print and a faux multicolored print on a dress pattern, multicolored batiks were not available until just recently. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batik for more information.
I just completed a quilt using batiks which used quite a bit of my collection, so I am building it up again in anticipation of making another batik quilt. I love both of your projects. Thanks for the opportunity to win some groooovy fabric and for sharing your batik projects.

  71. I've never used a lot of batiks but had heard from others that because of the manufacturing process, it was hard to quilt. Since you said, "The material was so nice to machine quilt...", I'm looking forward to giving them a chance. "Peace"...was such a great greeting and farewell; reminds me of aloha.
