Sunday 30 December 2012

What a nice snow day. I should be getting my snow shoes out but it is so much warmer in side. I will do better tomorrow. I spent the morning working on my Christmas cross stitch and watching a movie. Then I headed to the sewing room for the afternoon. I added some boarders to my Busy cartwheel.

Then I put togeather Clue two to the Mystery Quilt that I am doing from Lindy's Threads. Now I am waiting for clue number three. There are sixteen of these blocks.

Clue number one

I am not sure how this is going togeather. Maybe clue number three will fit togeather. Interesting

I am leaking up to Barb at Cat Patches for the 2012 NFO as I have joined the 2013. This is what I have started for the month of December.

A Busy Cartwheel

I didn't get as much sewing done today as I planned. Sometimes the day just slips by. I went and had a really nice visit with my friend Marjorie. But this is a little something I am working on. I saw this block on The Way I Sew it, A Busy Cartwheel. I thought it was so cute that I had to try it.

I think I will make this as my center block, add a couple of boarders around it and then add smaller blocks around that. I had three charm packs called Salt Air by moda that I wanted to do something with. Hopefully by the end it will look great.
I also bought a new camera for my husband for Christmas. The pictures so far are clear and I think I will be able to take better pictures of my projects.
It is windy and cold here today and a great day to stay in side where it is warm.

Merry Christmas

What a great day. The kids were so excited. Dinner was great, Our son bought us lobster so we had it for supper and my grand daughter is spending the night so we went to the sewing room later this afternoon. She received this doll to sew and then she decided that she would like a blanket also.

This is my grand daughter Sara. She is getting a room make over for Christmas so she is here for a couple of days until her room is finished. I could think of better things to do than painting a bedroom on Christmas day. We hung her new light a couple of days ago while she was at her grand mothers on PEI. She should really like it.

Christmas Eve dinner.

Christmas Eve is here. The pies are baked, the vegetables are in the pot, the turkey is in the oven and the table is set. Thanks to my husband we had everything ready by 10:30. There will be 15 for supper this year, a little smaller than usual. Its a beautiful day here but a little cold. I think I will bundle up and go for a walk. The kids should be here by 3:00. Have a great day everyone.

Merry Christmas Everyone.

This is a little cross stitch picture that I did last year and since this is a quilting, sewing blog I thought it fit. It is a really cute picture.

Merry Christmas everyone. When Christmas is over I have great plans for the sewing room. It is going to be a great holiday with all my family and friends. I am all ready except making the pies this afternoon. Christmas Eve dinner here tomorrow and then my work is done. Hope everyone has a great Christmas and that they get lots of material for Christmas ha ha.

It looks like Christmas

Had a great day today even though we had no power. My grandaughter Lauren came and spent the day. Now that she is eleven she doen't come as much. We spent the day Christmas cooking.

Just got the sugar cookies on the pan and the hydro went out so she just covered them and put them in a cool place. I got my Peanut Butter Balls dipped in chocolate, finished my Cherry Balls and made Almond Bark. I can cook on top of my stove but can't bake. Now that supper is over with we have Ginger Bread cookies to bake but when you sit down it is hard to get back up. But they need to be done. Off to the kitchen we go.

We had lots of snow so it sure looks like Christmas. Gifts are done, Christmas cooking almost done and just a little wrapping to do. I am ready, just need to cook Christmas Eve dinner. My son Ryan wants to have boxing day breakfast at his house and take all the kids to the movies. Mark thought that was a good idea and then go to my mother's for her dinner. We are off  to my husband's family for Christmas dinner. Three turkey dinner's. That should be good for the scales.

The Last of the Christmas gifts.

Three sets of place matts, the last of my Christmas gifts. Now to finish the wrapping.

Now all that is left is the Christmas baking. My grand son Owen and I started today and made a few dozen Peanut Butter Balls. I will dip them in chocolate tomorrow. Then I need to make a few dozen Cherry balls. I am not going to do much baking this year. I give most of it away anyway. My husband dosn't eat it and I don't need it. But it dosn't seen like Christmas without the baking. I will make a few Christmas cookies for my grand children. I just need to get my son to make his famous Rasberry cheesecake for Christmas Eve. It is so good. He is a great cook. Both my boys like to cook, but Ryan loves to bake also.
These are my snow babies that my friend gives me every year. They are one of my favorite Christmas decorations.

I am getting quite a collection. Thanks Norma.

Sunday 16 December 2012

Just came home from a Christmas Concert in Salem .  The children did really well. My four year old grandson started hockey this year. He had a hockey tournment this week end. Three games. They did really well.
I also won the 50/50 at the third game and won $73.50. That was quite a surprise. My granddaughter Sara was there to buy the tickets and I told her I would share if we won. She was pretty excited.

Sara also went to the Hopewell Hill nursing home with her grandfather to play for the patients. My husband said she did so well on her violin. She had a great time and the patience loved her.

Is it Halloween or is it Christmas time...

I did this cross stitch for a Christmas gift. I was going to frame it but when it was going to cost $60.00 for the frame I had to make a pillow. The pattern was made into a pillow so I went that way.  I was quite happy with the way it turned out. I don't know weather she will see this but if she does Merry Christmas.   I think I have just two more gifts to finish. It sounds like a snow day tomorrow so should be able to get back to the sewing room. I give up on getting my quilt finished before Christmas but will keep plugging away at it. January is a good month to quilt.

Christmas tree skirt.

Another project done. One I have been working on for awhile. I was nervous to do the free motion quiting on it. I got brave and was quite happy with the result.

It is called Tumbling stars. It is the same material as the Christmas socks. The more I do with the quilting the easier it gets. I still will be awhile before a do a larger quilt but it is fun doing these smaller  projects. I didn't do many of these smaller sewing projects because I would have to hand quilt it. Now with the free motion quilting I am all set. Fun, fun, fun.

My Mystery Quilt

I must say I am doing something that I have never done before. I am making a quilt that I will have no idea what it will look like. It is a Mystery Quilt. Lindy's Thread is hosting a mystery quilt. I thought it might be fun and since I bought this material from the Fabric Cupboard. It is the Modafabrics line, cattails & clover and summer's end. Very pretty. The Fabric Cupboard had it on sale for $4.99 a meter one week and I couldn't resist.

The first clue was to make 20 of each  block. So here they are and now waiting for clue #2. The light colour is the background colour. It is more of a gold colour. It is hard to take pictures. They never show the true colour.

My Mug Rug

I want to thank Betty Lou for the idea for the mug rug. I decided to try a couple. The first one didn't turn out as I would of liked it. The colours blended in to much.

The second one turned out so much better. I think you always have to make two so you can see the mistakes from the first one.

The colours turned out better, not so blended in. For a pattern go to Betty Lou's sight  at American Vintage Quilts. . Her mug rug turned out so nice.

Another Christmas Present DONE|||

Well I was looking for a gift for a certain person and a friend was going to make this from 5inch charm packets so I thought it looked easy and since I had the book I started it yesterday. I did the machine quilting on it and I must say I was quite happy with it. I used my walkling foot and the double needles that I learned from my Free Motion Quilting. Towards the end I was getting the hang of it. Here it is.

I think I am going to enjoy this free motion Quilting. It does get easier with practise.  Now back to the sewing room to start something else. Hope everyone has a great day.

Tuesday November 27

And now for the give away. I have been spending a lot of time trying to figure out what to give for a give away and decided to make something. It will be something special to remind everyone what fun we had on  this blog.
The only rule for this give away is to be a follower and leave a comment on how you have enjoyed this blog. Oh you are wondering what the give away is. Here is a picture.

This sock pattern was in a tutorial and I thought it was so nice that I made four to hang on my mantel for my four beautiful grandchildren. And you know Christmas stockings, they may have something special in them. Have fun with the rest of the blog and thanks for letting me be a part of it.

Road Trip Quilt Along

I just got back my quilt from Wendy Billings that does machine quilting. She did a beautiful job. I was very happy with it. She did different techniques on each block and different ones on the boarders. It will come in handy for when I do Machine quilting. Her prices were great. I was glad that I took it.

Wendy Billings Country Quilt Finishing from Sackville NB. She picks up and delivers at the Fabric Cupboard.

My Free Motion Quilting Day

Well I just got home from a Free Motion Quilting class and we had a great time. My friend Connie from Shepody Mountain Crafter went with me. We learned so much and just doing this class at the Fabric Cupboard gives me so much confidence to do more. It was great. Here are some pictures from our day. This is a beautiful store with lots of great ideas and deals.

This is Connie getting ready for a great day. Here is the piece that we did.
